DIY Microdermabrasion Facial Treatment

Need a little exfoliating power on your face? Well this is where it’s at, my friends!

Honestly I don’t know very much about microdermabrasion other than they use some little tool to scrape all the dead skin off. Or something like that. I’m not at all sure why you need to go in and have that done when you can basically do the same thing in the comfort of your own home.

Feel free to use the essential oils of your choice, or none at all if you don’t use essential oils. Either way you will still get a good gentle scrub that leaves your face pretty darn silky smooth.

Microdermabrasion: Basic Recipe

  • 1/3 cup baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon castile soap
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • Essential oils of your choice, see below (roughly 5-8 drops total)
Directions:

1) Measure the baking soda into a small bowl. Stir in the castile soap and mix until it resembles fine crumbs.

2) Next pour in the white vinegar. This will cause the mixture to fizz and that’s ok.

3) Continue to mix and as you do it will magically become silky smooth.

4) Next drop in the essential oils, if using, and mix until well combined.

5) Scoop this into a small glass jar and use as needed. I don’t have an exact shelf life on this stuff, as it will vary depending whether or not you add essential oils and how you store it. But it should last you several weeks if not more than a month.

To use:
  1. Wash your face to remove any makeup. Moisten face with warm water and taking a small amount of the microdermabrasion gently massage into the facial skin. Be sure to avoid the eyes.
  2. Once thoroughly massaged in, rinse off with warm water.
  3. Pat your face dry and spritz on a lovely toner and finish with a moisturizer.
  4. Touch your face and revel in it’s baby butt softness. Ha!

Feel free to use this once a week, possibly more depending on your skin. If you have extremely sensitive skin it would probably be wise to do a patch test first, especially if you are adding in essential oils.

**Please note that if you use any citrus oils be sure to apply at night as they tend to make your skin more photosensitive.
